Chairman, Ultra Electronics Holdings Plc
Dr Julian Blogh has spent most of his working life in the electronics industry working with Ferranti Radar, Plessey Radar and Dowty Electronic Systems. He was Managing Director of Sonar & Communication Systems from 1987 to 1992, when he was appointed Managing Director of Dowty Avionics.
He led the management buy-out of seven Dowty defence and aerospace electronics businesses from the TI Group to form Ultra Electronics and became Chief Executive when it began trading in October 1993. Dr Blogh was also appointed Deputy Chairman in April 2004 and became Chairman in April 2005.
Dr Blogh is Chair of the Nomination Committee and Chair member of the Remuneration Committee of the Gooch & Housego Board.
Jan Melles

Jan Melles was born in Utrecht, The Netherlands in 1940. He has been an entrepreneur in the global optics and laser industries for over 40 years having founded or co-founded 12 companies in these fields.
As sole owner and CEO of Photonics Investments BV he has been involved in mergers and acquisitions of photonics companies and arranged the sale or acquisition of 37 companies around the world.
Mr Melles has served as both executive and non executive director in over 20 companies both privately and publicly, varying in size from $5 million to over $200 million, and currently serves as non executive director in five companies, including Gooch & Housego PLC.
He graduated from the Netherlands Maritime Academy, Amsterdam in 1961 with a BSc. E.E. degree, and is a member of the Remuneration Committee of the Gooch & Housego Board.
Eugene Arthurs PhD

Dr Eugene Arthurs is Executive Director of The International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE). He graduated from Queens University/Belfast in 1969 with a BS in physics with first-class honours, and in 1972 with a PhD in Applied Physics.
Dr Arthurs is a member of the Optical Society of America (OSA) and serves as the chair of the OSA Corporate Associates Activities Committee. He is also a member of the Advisory Board, Photo-chemical Research Center, and Bowling Green State University, and is a member of the Remuneration Committee of the Gooch & Housego Board.
Paul Heal

Paul Heal retired from his position as a client service Partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers at the end of 2007, leaving a role he had held for 20 years.
Based in its Bristol office, he was primarily responsible for middle market clients ranging from smaller listed companies (market cap <£250m) to venture capital backed and privately owned businesses. Gooch & Housego PLC was a client of Mr Heal prior to September 2003 and he advised the company through the preparation for IPO, and acted as reporting accountant for the flotation in 1997.
Mr Heal is Chair of the Audit Committee and of the Remuneration Committee of the Gooch & Housego Board. He is also a non-executive Director of a number of other organisations including The Theatre Royal, Bath, The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and The Andrews Charitable Trust. He also acts as a consultant to a number of privately owned businesses.
Gareth Jones

Gareth Jones has an honours degree in Physics from Imperial College and is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics. He joined Gooch & Housego in 1978 and was instrumental in the development of new products and capabilities that helped transform the business from a craft-based optical engineering company into today’s global technology business.
Mr Jones became Technical Director in 1985 and Managing Director in 1995. In 1997 he was a member of the team that led Gooch & Housego’s IPO on the Alternative Investment Market and in 2000 he became a Partner in a leading UK venture capital firm.
He re-joined Gooch and Housego PLC as Chief Executive in 2003.
Terry Scribbins

Terry Scribbins originally joined Gooch & Housego in 1971 and rose to the position of Works Manager before leaving in 1985 to set up his own business. He re-joined Gooch & Housego in 2004 to lead a new management team, and has played a key role in the integration and reorganisation of the Group’s optoelectronic components and materials operations.
Andrew Boteler

Andrew Boteler is a chartered accountant, having trained with Ernst & Young and qualified in 1993. He has an honours degree from Exeter University.
In 2002 Mr Boteler was part of the team that bought out the US telecommunications components group JDSU’s UK fibre optics business, to establish SIFAM Fibre Optics Ltd. There, he held the position of Finance Director until the company was acquired by Gooch & Housego in May 2007.
Prior to this, Andrew held several positions in industry as a Financial Controller before becoming the senior Finance Officer in the UK for JDSU. Between 2007 and 2009 Andrew held the positions of Head of Finance EMEA and Acting Chief Financial Officer for Gooch & Housego, before joining the Board in August 2009.
